The Rebels advice on how to win a debate on this board:-
a) Claim to have a P.H.D in the area of debate.
b) When you loose the debate, claim to be the winner regardless.
Seriously there have been some great debates here.

Has anyone followed a thread on this broad, in which an argument has been won by someone admitting they were wrong?
Anyway maybe if arguments are not won, people go away think about it later, and maybe change their mind a bit.
Talking about maybe, is it conceivably possible that some are here simply for the joy of arguing?

Well spotted "OnTheWayOut" and of course I did that deliberately to highlight selective quoting.
Has anyone noted how often selectively quoting people happens on a thread.
Marty Fellon is terrible -to think some people like the idea of racism?
could later be quoted as " some people like the idea of racism"

The way I see it if a person has a nothing argument, then where there is nothing there must be something. Or at least I consider myself not brilliant enough, nor genius enough to consider what I now believe in my mind as fact.

" OntheWayOut":-" can anyone WIN a debate on the Internet?
its typically a bunch of one sided digs and " who's got the best zinger?"

Cofty " all " LARGE" number of theistic arguments were considered and found to be vacuous"
The Rebel " but surely the " SMALLER" number of theistic arguments should also be considered?. And isn't all debating " vacuous" when there is only one chair in the house?
Without an open mind what is the point of debating?

i think pilate was being socratic when he asked jesus - what is truth?.
my question is to do with whether or not jesus was also being socratic when he said he had come to bear witness to the truth.
my idea is that both pilate and jesus were talking about a kind of ethics to live.
" WHAT IS TRUTH" re Pilate to Jesus.
What a brilliantt observation to that question " Ruby"
You assume in your question both were " talking about a kind of ethics to live by" so let's take your " two cultures" statement further. Jesus was a carpenter, Pilate lived in a clean, splendid palace, and had servants to clean. But both once had mummy to clean the diapers. One of these men a carpenter had become a " King" and this impressed Pilate who was born a " king"
So let's speculate. Maybe by Pilates question " What is truth?" he was asking " What makes a great man?" and Jesus reply " I have come to bear witness to the ( that ) truth" And Jesus answer which was a kind of insane rhetoric about self- reliance impressed Pilate...and he tried to " half heartedly" save Jesus, because he admired the man.
What I find interesting with Pilate, he obviously admired Jesus. I also believe, by raising the question if Pilate thought Jesus was anything more than a " man" he would have humbled himself and actually saved the " son of God". So my conclusion,Jesus never convinced Pilate he was anything other than a man, yet Pilates question was sincere.

microsoft definitely seem to be undergoing a revival and are coming out with some cool tech.
it's good to see them turning things around and keeping apple honest.. the holo-lens looks fantastic - much better than full vr headsets by providing augmented reality instead (imagine 3d minecraft projected on a table or aliens running round your living room to shoot at).. more practical though is the update to the surface tablet and the surprise release, the surface book laptop / tablet.
yeah, it's confusing - one is a tablet that becomes a laptop and the other is a laptop that becomes a tablet.. i promised our eldest a laptop for his high-school graduation and to use now he's starting university and took him to the apple store a few months ago but the macbooks i was leaning towards weren't available at the time.
Well I am a simple man. The truth is I always thought my IPad was a computer. Anyway the way I look at it is, I don't need to dress better, my 4 year old IPad gives me all I need.
funny thing was my 10 year old kid gave me 20 reasons why he needed a computer on his Xmas wish list ( I have bought him the computer he wanted, but he doesn't really need it) The Xmas present he will treasure is a leather bound paper blank with me finding the time most days,to fill the pages by telling him all the love he has given me, and how much he means to me.

many people are understandably upset and angry at the notion that jws have the right to shun people.
it seems such an obvious "no brainer" cruel and inhuman thing to do - it must be wrong ... surely?.
of course we look at things from the perspective of those hurt and harmed by shunning.
Well said Punk.
Personal choice. No fear or intimidation, nor an immediate superior should make us shun another.
